at my mother's house in skaneateles-- a bird just hit the window by the
feeder, which they rarely do since it's so close to the feeder, so we
hurried to look for an accipiter but instead saw a blue jay fly into a
nearby flowering hawthorn with a still living junco (presumably the one
that hit the window?) in its feet, carrying it in flight and holding it on
the branch it landed on, attempting to begin eating it. the junco struggled
and made the jay's work difficult; it flew with junco still in its feet off
to a pine. anybody ever seen this kind of thing?
