I spent a couple of hours at the compost off Stevenson Road this
morning (21 February 2012). Although gull activity was high (more
birds than I've seen here in a while, and many actively eating at a
fresh pile in the middle), the only bird of interest I was able to
find was a beautiful adult ICELAND GULL, probably the same one I saw
here a couple weeks ago and later at Stewart Park, with very white
wingtips in flight and only a bit of medium gray edging at rest. I
will post pictures on my Picasa site in a day or two.

The starling flock in the pheasant pens was chock full of BROWN-HEADED
COWBIRDS, probably over 200 in all, and at least 15 RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS. As always, this flock should be checked carefully for a
possible vagrant Brewer's Blackbird, as this seems like a great place
for one to turn up.

Good birding,
-Jay
