I led a group of eager-to-learn birders(yay!) on an Easter Sunday walk around the Eastern half of our land early this morning and we found around 24 different species, the most notable being - GREAT BLUE HERON (flyover), many FIELD SPARROWS (including one close-up good long look at one singing to everyone's pleasure), many EASTERN TOWEES (also some good close-ups), several NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS, AMERICAN KESTREL, BARN SWALLOWS, TREE SWALLOWS, and a pair of HOODED MERGANSERS that seem to have made themselves at home on our main pond. On the way back to my house watched a female NORTHERN HARRIER hunting over the fields. Then discovered two new yard birds - WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and a pair of EASTERN TOWEES. And still lots and lots of JUNCOES. And yesterday after the rain let up I found a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET in the woods.
No warblers yet :-( .
