Hoping that a few of the VERY early spring arrivals might trickle through my yard, I was out during the sunny period early this morning -- it was fairly quiet except for the songs of PURPLE FINCH, WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, and KINGLETS. As usual, there were a few interesting flyovers -- a pair of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 4 TREE SWALLOWS, and a CHIMNEY SWIFS - all hard to get as actual yard birds. A few YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and at least 5 FLICKERS came over as well.
Yesterday evening, a dark MERLIN bombed over the yard, and we flushed a flock of 20+ AM PIPITS in the fields on Bluegrass Lane off Hanshaw.
