April 09 , 2012

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     4/17: Between Benning Marsh and May’s Point Pool there were 6 species of 
Shorebird. DUNLIN, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, WILSON’S 
SNIPE and SPOTTED SANDPIPER. They continued to be seen throughthe week.
     4/18: A SNOWY EGRET was reported from Tschache Pool.
     4/22: A SANDHILL CRANE was spotted at Armitage Road and a COMMON GALLINULE 
was seen at VanDyne Spoor Road.


Derby Hill Bird Observatory
------------

     Thanks to a big day of 3,431 raptors on 4/16 it was a good week early on 
and the total for the week was 5,065. A rare KRIDER’S type RED-TAILED HAWK was 
seen on 4/19. FOS WOOD THRUSH and NASHVILLE WARBLER were found on4/22.


Phillips Point (Oneida Lake) Lakewatch. 
------------

     Waterfowl continue to migrate with numbers of WHITE-WINGED and SURF 
SCOTERS, RED-NECKED GREBES, and COMMON LOONS being seen A RED-THROATED LOON was 
seen also. A FISH CROW continues to be heard.


Onondaga County
------------

     4/18: 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen at the Pony Farm on Lamson Road. 
Throughout the week WILSON’S SNIPE, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and SOLITARY SANDPIPER 
were also seen here. A COMMON GALLINULE was seen at Old Fly Marsh.
     4/21: A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at the Dewitt Landfill near the Erie 
Canal.
     4/22: A GREAT EGRET was seen at a private residence in the Town of Pompey.


Oswego County
------------

     4/22: At the wetland on County Rt.6 north of County Rt.3 the following 
birds were seen. GREAT EGRET, COMMON GALLINULE, VIRGINIA RAIL, LESSER SCAUP, 
and BLUE-WINGED TEAL. An UPLAND SANDPIPER was found at the landfill adjacent to 
the Oswego County Airport. Today (4/23) a second bird was seen.


Madison County
------------

     4/18: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER is still being reported at a feeder near 
Sheds.
     4/20: A WHIP-POOR-WILL was heard from Marsh Mills Road in the Town of 
Sullivan.
