Susie & I conducted a survey of the three known (to us) breeding locations
of SANDHILL CRANES in Central NY. We found a total of 5 adults and 2 colts.
The colts were at Carncross Rd. (N. Montezuma WMA) and looked robust. We're
hoping they evade the eagles, coyotes, bobcats, unlike last year. Based on
parental behavior, we anticipate more colt sightings in the next survey.

We watched about 12 BLACK TERNS swooping about at the east end of VanDyne
Spoor Rd. (Montezuma NWR)

Finally, I got a close-up of the warning call (Sibley calls it a threat
call) of a lone LEAST SANDPIPER. Peeps have voices!
