Hi all, I just spoke to Jacob Johnson, who is not on the Cayugabirds list but wanted to report a possible Whimbrel. He last saw it around 4 pm today (Wed) in the fields across from the Tompkins County SPCA at 1640 Hanshaw Rd. in Ithaca. He said it's been there all week. Here is his description (he was using binoculars): ~14" tall with blue-grey legs, downwardly curved bill which was orange at the base, striped head (longitudinal - parallel to the neck, not crosswise), white eyebrow and a mottled back. He's not sure it's a Whimbrel but would love a confirmation. It would be a life bird for him! Please post to the list and copy Jacob if you confirm (or not).
