We banded a young blackpoll yesterday. Earliest date in several years. I'm curious as to what ID clues people are using to call empis in tree tops by species? In the hand and without vocalization, these are highly variable in plumage at this time of year and tough to split out even with several measurements. A Yellow-bellied we banded the other day was quite drab and could easily have been called something else strictly by eye.
