Sara Jane and I did a quick look-see at the Montezuma visitor center and the auto loop around 2:00 yesterday. A docent reported seeing the(?) RED-NECKED PHALAROPE at the visitor center in the am. As we started the auto loop, we were surprised to find the phalarope close up at Larue's. Got great looks!! We also had one each of BLACK-BELLIED AND GOLDEN PLOVER, also close to the road. Have been seeing more birds recently on my fast exercise walks around Beebe Lake and through Mundy Wildflower Garden, presumably migrants. (Sorry, Dave, but I don't have binocs with me, so these are naked-eye sightings!) After a long absence, COMMON MERGANSER have started frequenting Beebe again. On Monday I saw COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER. Today I had a small flock of ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK and a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER.

You never know what gems you are going to find when you do any birding, even when it's only a quick survey!
