The Cayuga Bird Club is pleased to welcome Mark Morris, visiting Associate
Professor, Dept. of Architecture, Cornell University, as guest speaker at
our monthly meeting on Monday, October 8 at 7:30 pm at the Cornell Lab of
Ornithology (with refreshments at 7:15).
Mark will present "An Auspicious Occasion: Rome is For the Birds", focusing
on the mythic narrative of Romulus and Remus, wild children raised by a
she-wolf, who grow up to select which hill (the Palatine versus Aventine)
their future city will be built upon through a contest decided by augury -
interpreting divine approval through studying the behavior of live birds
over the two proposed sites. The appearance of select species, the number
of birds and their flight patterns all contribute to Romulus' win and
Remus' murder.

The Club will also be hosting Mark for dinner at Taste of Thai Express
(downtown Rt.13N) at 5:30 pm prior to the meeting. This is a great
opportunity for members to meet Mark and socialize with other members while
enjoying some great food. If you would like to join us for dinner, please
rsvp to [email protected] by Monday morning so that reservations can
be made.

Have a great weekend of birding and hope to see you Monday night,
Colleen Richards
