HI ALL -

I have been reading all your messages about Rufous Hummers.
I live on Wyers Point Road on Cayuga Lake about 1 mile north of Sheldrake
Point and about 3 + miles from my good friend, Marty Schlabach. On Sunday,
Sept. 16 , a beautiful day, I sat on the front porch with my binos and
enjoyed birds coming to the freshly cleaned Bird Bath -Cardinals washing up,
even a nuthatch family. Then coming from a clump of fall flowers was a
Hummingbird, flying slower than my usual hummers. It turned and I could see
the rusty side as it went for the bird bath. Got my Binoculars on it, by
then it was sitting on the edge of the bird bath. Its back was a dark green.
Then it flew up in a nearby Red Bud tree and I lost it under the leaves.

I studied my Bird book and thought it was a female Rufous
but did not report it as I wanted to be very sure. I had hoped it would
stick around but I haven't seen it since.

On Oct. 17th when I received Jay McGowan's message with the
good picture of the Rufous at Marty's house I knew that it was just like the
one at my house on Sept. 16th. It may be the same one.

I can now add it to my life list. !!!

Good Birding,

Naomi Brewer
