As I stepped out of the house this afternoon, I heard a cardinal belt out a few notes. The bird apparently thought better about its timing and promptly ceased singing. Anytime I hear birds singing during the winter, I keep praying that this might be a reliable harbinger of better weather to come. I'm not holding my breath, though!
