At the Mullholland preserve this morning I thought I heard a winter wren singing across the rippling sound from the creek, but when I got closer all I heard were junco trills. This was pretty close to the parking lot.
At about the same time there was an odd whistling call -- something between a single titmouse "peter" and a redtail hawk -- which I eventually concluded to be a blue jay, but without binoculars I couldn't be sure.
