This morning I watched a female Hairy Woodpecker hop from the deck railing to the hummingbird feeder and take several long drinks of syrup. In years past I have had a family of House Finches regularly drink from the feeder, too.
This is out of basin. Last week while I was babysitting my grandchildren in Fayetteville, NY, I saw a pair of Merlin. I think they have a nest in one of the large spruce trees near our children's home which is in a neighborhood near the center of Fayetteville. If anyone is interested in directions, contact me off list.
