Sorry for the late post. You can thank time warner cable internet outages for that!!!
anyway, we went up the west side of Cayuga Lake first to avoid the west winds. There was not too many birds. All apparently were blown over to the east side of the lake. Best bird was a LESSER BLACK BACKED GULL from Dean's Cove. http://www.flickr.com/photos/davenicosia/11038578254/in/photostream/ We also had a small raft of SNOW GEESE in the middle of the lake from the west side. Lower Lake Road had lots of GADWALL and quite a few TUNDRA SWANS. Also RING-NECKED DUCKS, SCAUP SP. and a RUDDY DUCK. The visitor's center at Montezuma was quiet. Had several NORTHERN SHOVELERS and 2 DUNLIN. Wildlife drive was uneventful did have rafts of mainly RING-NECKED DUCKS, FEW SCAUP, REDHEAD, AMERICAN COOT, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON MERGANSERS and PIED BILLED GREBE. We did not see the IBIS at Montezuma. Knox-Marcellus marsh continues to the be the best spot in the area. Hundreds of TUNDRA SWANS continue. Lots of CANADA GEESE, few CACKLING picked out as well. Still many NORTHERN PINTAIL, AMERICAN WIGEON. few NORTHERN SHOVELERS. Another highlight was 33 SANDHILL CRANES. we also had a couple NORTHERN HARRIERS coursing low over the marsh and BALD EAGLE or two. There were also RING-NECKED DUCKS, SCAUP sp., and typical dabblers. Van Dyne Sporer Rd yielded a cooperative NORTHERN SHRIKE. there were also many waterfowl, AMERICAN COOTS, NORTHERN HARRIER among typical birds. We also had a close PEREGRINE FALCON riding the winds just above the road. The east side of Cayuga lake was a bust with intense winds, spray and waves. Didn't see much.
