I'e spent the last couple of late afternoons at the Short-eared Owl spot near the Long Pt Winery on Rt 34B. Yesterday (Friday Jan 3rd), 4 owls were already flying around when I arrived at about 4:10 pm. They put on a great show with lots of midair interactions and calls, one carrying a sizable rodent. At one point one owl seemed to be harassing a Northern Harrier in midair. Today I arrived early but had to wait until 4:30 before just one Short-eared Owl took to the air from across the field, but then flew over Lake Rd out of sight. And that was it. :-(( You can never tell what will happen...
