Ann Mitchell & I went up the east side of Cayuga Lake in the afternoon, as did several others. Although we missed the Aurora Eared Grebe in the sun glare (we only saw a HORNED GREBE there), we saw an impressive display of at least 4 SHORT-EARED OWLS near NYS-90 and the fields at the top of Lake Rd in Ledyard, and at the bottom of the hill numerous AMERICAN ROBINS eating cedar berries. Other finds included the SNOWY OWL on Indian Field Rd just south of Poplar Ridge (we missed any further south in the dusk), a male AMERICAN WIGEON on the south shore of Finger Lakes Marine Services at Myers Point, some 26 LONG-TAILED DUCKS and 17 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS off East Shore Park, and most impressively, a male RING-NECKED PHEASANT flying across NYS-90 just south of Rafferty Road in Ledyard, a bird which may have lived full-time outside the Game Farm for months!
