Yesterday (Sunday) morning I was out enjoying the warm weather was some friends looking for tracks in the sand along the banks of Cayuga Inlet south of Buttermilk State Park<https://www.google.com/maps/place/42%C2%B024%2733.5%22N+76%C2%B032%2707.6%22W/@42.409304,-76.535452,6878m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0>. Of particular interest were:
1. My FOY Spotted Sandpiper 2. A Canada Goose roosting about 60 feet off the ground partially hidden in the hollow formed where the trunk of a huge cottonwood tree had broken off. It was there for at least two hours, and was visited from time to time by a very loud Canada Goose companion, who would land next to the roosting goose and display it's wings while calling loudly. Does Canada Goose ever nest in trees? 3. An extended rolling-around-on-the-ground brawl between two male Eastern Bluebirds, with an attentive female nearby. During the conflagration, she flew a couple of times to what appeared to be the entrance of a natural cavity about 6 feet off the ground in a broken-off trunk near the river bank. 4. (Completely off topic) A number of mammalian tracks, including river otter, mink, muskrat, beaver, and others. -Mike -- -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
