After striking out on these owls several times here and in Lansing, I got the show of a lifetime today. Two short-eared owls were present, flying around and perching on nearby posts on Rock River rd. When I arrived, one owl was feasting on a kill (I couldn't see what the prey was) on the side of the road, while the other posted lookout in a nearby field. A car drove by and spooked the owl off the prey. It flew right over my car and landed on a telephone pole, posing for pictures. I watched the two of them hunting and flying around for about 45minutes, when one returned to the roadside prey, and the light started to fade. Life birds for me, and they were super awesome.
