When I heard about Merlins repeatedly seen around N Titus Avenue in Ithaca, I
thought I'd take a look. Specifically I wanted this species on my Luddite List.
Monday after work would be my opportunity to bike around the neighborhood. Then
while driving taxi about 4pm on Monday I saw a MERLIN flying east over Fulton
Street and perching high in a nearby tree along West Court Street. That was an
Office Bird, and not new for that list. I stuck with the biking plan, but
without luck. Perhaps I should have widened my search area. I've been even more
vigilant than usual when out walking. Then this afternoon about 445pm while
sitting on my back porch I saw a MERLIN zip north toward Cass Park. I need a
new category, such as Lazy Luddite, for when I don't even have to get out of
the deck chair.

I have no idea where the Merlins are nesting. They are so fast they can cover a
large area easily. I figure most songbirds in the flats should be nervous.
