It was brought to my attention that maybe I did *not* see a Golden-WINGED
Warbler in my back yard; and then I realized I meant to write Golden-RUMPED
Warbler. Thank you, Dave Nutter, for keeping us (me) accurate!!! So easy
to make a slip of tongue, which carries through even when typing and had
recently been reading up on the plight of the Golden-winged Warbler.

Dave helped me identify a GRW feeding amongst the seeds in a mature Sugar
Maple in Fall of 2015, so I was very excited to see it back again, this
time in Spring, and surprised to see it on the ground close to me! Such a
beautiful bird!!! So beautiful, I had to paint it in a mural inside my
front porch. Will post today on Facebook bird club page if anyone wants to
see.

It's amazing how every year I learn new things about my back yard. I am
slowly learning to distinguish the difference between the mating call of a
Dark-eyed Junco from a Chipping Sparrow. Last year, these two were driving
me crazy as I thought I might have had a Pine or Palm Warbler calling
somewhere. Now I see that it's these two birds, and they sound similar at
times, but are very different. Also, how close or far away from me they
are, seems to alter what I perceive and how I hear it. (Kind of like the
ambulance siren effect? but the birds are not moving when they call their
mating call.) When close, the Chipping Sparrow sounds more like junco.
When farther away, more like a machine gun.... or maybe it's the other way
around? I don't know! But I'm slowly learning, and it's so much fun to
learn and read what you all are observing!
