Yesterday, at the Logan Hill Preserve in Candor, I heard a sound I've never heard before. It maybe translates to "tick-grrrrrr" - but not at all like a tanager's "tick-burrrr." The "grrrrr" sound was deep and dry. The call was repeated several times before I had to leave, and came from a hedgerow between two fields. Do woodcocks ever make such a sound? They often hang out in the same general area. Any ideas? Betsy
