At about 5:30 tonight, as I walked around our half acre pond, I scared up a Least Bittern that was at the pond edge. I got to within 15 feet of it when if flew up in front of me, which startled me, and it flew 50 feet directly away from me heading for a pine tree. It flew into the pine, but I couldn’t see it land. Never found it again. I feel badly that I made it leave a place that perhaps it was going to spend the night.
