RED-NECKED GREBE BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON GLOSSY IBIS GREAT EGRET WHITE-WINGED SCOTER BLACK SCOTER GOLDEN EAGLE WILLET ICELAND GULL GLAUCOUS GULL LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL RED-HEADED WOODPECKER ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER PROTHONOTARY WARBLER LINCOLN’S SPARROW EVENING GROSBEAK RED CROSSBILL Almost all Warblers, Vireos and Flycatchers arrived this week. The next few weeks should be exciting. Take advantage if you can. Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ The three GLOSSY IBISES were seen twice this week at the main pool. 4/30: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen in the Main Pool. 5/2: A WILLET was seen at Carncross Road. 5/3: A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER has returned to one of the nest boxes in the wooded area of Armitage Road. 5 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS wwere seen on the Wildlife Drive. Onondaga County ------------ 4/28: A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was seen from the West Shore Trail on Onondaga Lake in Syracuse. 4/29: 2 RED-NECKED GREBES were seen from the West Shore Trail of Onondaga lake. Possibly the same pair were seen on 5/2. 4/30: A BLACK TERN was seen at Muskrat Bay on Oneida Lake. 5/1: A BLACK SCOTER was seen on the West Shore Trail of Onondaga Lake. 11 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen at a feeder on James Street in Fayetteville. 5/3: An EVENING GROSBEAK was seen on Winterton Drive in Fayetteville. 2 LINCOLN’S SPARROWS were seen a wooded area of LeMoyne College in Syracuse. Derby Hill Bird Observatory ------------ 8,292 Hawks were counted at Derby this week. Again BROAD-WINGED HAWKS made up a great majority of the birds counted. Only one GOLDEN EAGLE was spotted. Other highlights were continuing EVENING GROSBEAKS, and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER and a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER. Oswego County ------------ 4/27: 6 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet on Lake Ontario. 5/1: A GLAUCOUS GULL and an ICELAND GULL were at Oswego Harbor. 5/2: 2 SURF SCOTERS and 5 RED-NECKED GREBES were seen from Phillips Point on the north shore of Oneida Lake. A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen from Breitbeck Park in Oswego. 5/3: 4 RED-NECKED GREBES and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet of Lake Ontario. Cayuga County ------------ 4/27: A GLOSSY IBIS was seen at Fair Haven State Park. Madison County ------------ 4/27: 36 EVENING were counted at a feeder on Hawes Road near Eaton Reservoir where they have lingered since winter. 4/30: A BLACK SCOTER was seen on Woodman Pond north of Hamilton. 5/1: 6 EVENING GROSBEAKS were at a feeder on Carpenter Road near Sheds. 5/2: A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen on Woodman Pond north of Hamilton. Oneida County ------------ 4/27: 20 RED CROSSBILLS at the Woodford Memorial state Forest near Cassville. A late GREAT EGRET was seen at Utica Marsh. 4/28: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen on the Kirkland Trail south of Clinton. 5/2: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at Verona Beach State Park.
