Saving the Last Viable Population of Scarlet Macaws in Mexico:
Conservation, recovery and community stewardship in the Lacandon Rainforest

September 17, 3:00-4:00PM

Warren Hall 401 (Ag Quad)
Cornell Main Campus
137 Reservoir Ave, Ithaca, NY 14853

Description
The Lacandona is the last rainforest massif in Mexico. Natura y Ecosistemas
Mexicanos centers its conservation efforts in the implementation of a
sustainable development model in the region to revert environmental decline of
its natural ecosystems and the protection of the last viable population of the
scarlet macaw in Mexico.

Diego's Bio
Diego Noriega is a dedicated biologist specializing in avian conservation.
After earning a degree in Biology from the National Autonomous University of
Mexico (UNAM), Diego began working with Natura Mexicana on the conservation of
Mexico’s last population of scarlet macaws. Following four years of impactful
work, he then pursued a Master’s degree in Biotechnology at the University of
Queensland in Australia. Upon completing his studies, Diego returned to the
scarlet macaw conservation project, continuing his commitment to protecting
this critically endangered subspecies.
