Yes, in the middle of the day in late September there is a Ruffed Grouse drumming in my woods! I understand about "autumnal recrudescence of the amatory urge" (*) but it's a first for my property plus it's nearly 1pm on warm summery day...I always associate them with the early morning, early spring.
