"The sky opened and the ducks just fell out!"

The above words were uttered to me this Tuesday morning by fellow Refuge
Surveyor, Jackie Bakker, in response to the seemingly overnight "invasion"
of waterfowl at the Montezuma Refuge.
I had a good chuckle on hearing this, but Jackie was not exaggerating as
evidenced by the plethora of waterfowl that are currently arriving at the
Refuge: pintails, wigeon, gadwalls, shovlers, blacks, mallards,
green-winged teal, redheads, ruddy ducks, ring necks - hundreds of geese
(including 2 adult and 3 immature snow geese), not to mention cormorants,
grebes, great egrets and 140 sandhill cranes (at Knox Marcellus Marsh).
I encourage you to come witness this incredible spectacle as it continues
to build. You will be a witness to a phenomenon currently unfolding across
the continent - one that Montezuma offers a unique and precious window into.
Hope to see you there!
