Hi again all,
If anyone would care to see a photo of the Ruffed Grouse in crabapple, I've
posted one on my website here:

https://www.marieread.com/

Also the same photo on my Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/marie.read.7/

and the Cayuga Bird. Club Facebook page

Thanks for looking!
The grouse is back in the yard today, but not yet in the ice-covered crabapple.

Marie

Marie—your email reminded me of something I’d wanted to share with a couple of
weeks ago. In early Feb, walking the dog along the county highway near you, I
was delighted to spy a Ruffed Grouse on the ground under a bush right by the
road. My first ever RG sighting, despite having lived out here for 30 years
now. They’ve been out and about this year! (As I had the dog with, I didn’t
linger to observe, but the grouse seemed to be finding something good in the
snow under that bush).

Hi everyone.

I expected maybe a robin or waxwing would benefit from the lingering crabapples
in my yard, maybe even a bluebird. But I did not expect a Ruffed Grouse! It had
a little trouble balancing on the thin branches, but was feeding on the
somewhat dry fruits nonetheless! Next it trotted of around the corner of the
house and seems to be sheltering from the wind now. It was in the yard
yesterday under a spruce, one even coming up on our deck! On the deck early
this morning too.

Feeling blessed!

Marie
