Coming north on Rte. 89 last Wed. (26 Nov.) about 1 1/2 half miles north of
Deans Cove, I was thrilled to see 2 med. sized rafts of snow geese spread out
about mid-lake, first since the only raft  Becky & I had seen nearer Dean's
Cove last yr..  I saw no ducks anywhere but did see 3 loons north of Deans
Cove.
Perhaps  a couple hundred Canada geese were in the shallows & on shore against
the west shore near Ernsberger Rd..
Here in Union Springs  Mill pond has a few gadwall & fewer mallards & a couple
prs. of buffle heads. Mill pond has been basically dead the last 8-10 yrs. with
no sign of underwater plants. Factory St. pond rarely has any ducks .... sad to
see as both ponds used to have hundreds of ducks & many Canada geese, esp. when
the lake was rough & frozen. In my 34 yrs. here, the decline of waterfowl as
well as feeder birds has been dramatic, disturbing & sad. Deer continue to lick
my window sill feeder clean at night. A family of 5 crows come daily for
dropped seed.
