We beat the heat this morning with a delightful Thursday Birding Meetup at Roy Park Preserve North as we checked out the new accessible trail and boardwalk, and tramped through the adjacent Hammond Hill forest. The meadow, wetlands and forest were dripping with moisture, offering some magical views of dew laden spider webs and dramatic crepuscular rays. And, oh yeah, there were birds! The fifteen of us saw 37 species, often only one or two of a species but some nice close looks at a catbird and bluebird carrying food, presumably to feed their young. Many species were repeatedly heard like wood thrushes and veeries along with six different warblers. The morning sun showed off goldfinches and a Baltimore Oriole. Sometimes our birding is simply a lovely morning stroll. I think we all appreciated the chance to enjoy being outdoors before the heat set in again. Some of us headed over to the Corner Brew in Dryden for breakfast. Thanks to Nick Butts for ebirding: <https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Febird.org%2Fchecklist%2FS366616937%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExM0RtZzhtcGRsdWdpRmZIbnNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR7l3agMS8D6_gwzDSTKCoi0AMF5meYOzwa4br6t13UG0NWfz2nHofm-aqbC7A_aem__-klatst9vtz4lcDjc7rgw&h=AUCUnc_hE3KQWj6L5v0i9er-UiINgJdg0yEL9LFpvPK__Z_Tj3SpEMzxhRucsFFk0TvjJ1KL84A8Zo6z4435NSt1TTLWgvAtjoAtqTClxrNmunU7p-knTkfdEuO3iijBPH7ix2AlmcXfDlnTRfXU&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AUCdAp3zYR0CmSd0LnElMQQZBC42UPXvBoBpdgPwB1My-7OR6XlidAFELr1VS6nbS4tJTYHKiFkvSx_cxgF4aHPGktsq4Z9urQxK1LmQwFx98iKe9Uss4mqLY9qdrZq6ym5mXO6xhOpbkZi4zDXDExFbDld9crC7UiXm0Oj9G2TXwTk&c[1]=AUCdAp3zYR0CmSd0LnElMQQZBC42UPXvBoBpdgPwB1My-7OR6XlidAFELr1VS6nbS4tJTYHKiFkvSx_cxgF4aHPGktsq4Z9urQxK1LmQwFx98iKe9Uss4mqLY9qdrZq6ym5mXO6xhOpbkZi4zDXDExFbDld9crC7UiXm0Oj9G2TXwTk> Want to join us next week?
