*Job Title: SAS Programmer/ Migration Consultant
Location: Can sit onsite in Princeton, NJ, or work remote from anywhere in
the US
Duration: 4 Months*
**
***Not looking for Clinical Trail Programmers***
**
*Required Skills:*
*This large pharmaceutical / CRO company needs assistance migrating many
SAS programs / projects from a variety of different internal environments
to a new hosted environment. The internal environments include programs
maintained in Unix, Windows NT and PC SAS environments—many from different
sites in different countries. As such, programming standards will differ
at these different sites / countries. So, when these programs are to be
migrated into the new hosted environment, each program must adhere to the
same processes. This requires the majority of the migration activity to be
the consultant going through the existing code, following a migration plan,
which would identify which data sets and programs go to which directories,
and then document and perform library name changes within the code……and…..
perhaps removing library names in the code, because that’s not standard,
and converting to native SAS any Operating System-specific commands within
the code to work within the new environment, and
changing PROC’s related to switching from OLEDB to PC File Formats, as an
example, and
taking care of such things as X Commands, and
testing and validation of the migrated code (comparing programs, code &
logs to see if they match from the old to the migrated environment)—not too
extensively, however, and
in general, the data files (SAS data sets, flat files, Excel, maybe Oracle
Clinical) will be moved by the customer (and not the consultant), but it is
possible the consultant may need to do some file transfer activity.
Much of the existing code could have been created during SAS V6---it is a
lot of old hand-written batch code, with no process flows. Also, in some
cases, they are moving up from SAS v 8.2 to 9.1.3 to 9.2. And they are
moving up from 32-bit to 64-bit machines.
EG is used as an alternative front-end to Display Manager within their NT
environments.
PROC’s involved will be standard statistical ones within STAT (not EM), and
also Base and GRAPH.
Heavy use of macros in the code; some stored processes may exist; but no
SQL Pass-thru.*
**
*Specific Technical or Soft Requirements:
Ability and experience migrating and testing migrated SAS code, as defined
above.
Strong technical communication skills—because the client is global, you
must be able to technically communicate clearly and effectively (primarily
in writing, but somewhat verbally) with non-U.S. based sites that may have
staff with English as their second language. (Asia being a predominant
area.)
