Job details :
• Implement and maintain database objects and security in lower life cycles
.
• Working knowledge on Data domain and DSA.
• Participate in assessing or identifying any risks associated with the new
architectural components.
• Participate in any brainstorming activities or meetings pertaining to new
projects on Teradata.
• Participate in research solutions to various business and technical
problems, evaluate alternatives and be able to present recommendations and
justifications to senior staff.
• Development DBA will evaluate and recommend any Teradata Database
software upgrades to infrastructure team.
• Development DBA will perform/Co-ordinate POC for any 3rd part application
software tools which will interact with Teradata system.
• Develop physical design. (Indexing,Compression, Block size, Soft RI etc.)
• Designing the data security using VIEWS databases.
• Compile a capacity plan – Evaluate space, CPU, concurrency etc.
• User Access security (Example: Request batch-id’s, service accounts,
databases to the Operation DBA team ( only Development DBA’s should request
these, that is one way to make sure there is proper APP DBA involvement ))
• Enforcing best practice and standards for ETL (Teradata specific) .
• Work with developers to design tables necessary for ETL processing (i.e.
Staging tables).
• Participate in ETL code reviews (Teradata specific) and provide
recommendation.
• Performance tuning the ETL (Teradata) scripts.
• Share knowledge sessions with ETL Developers.
• Prepare QA test bed for QA testing needs.
• Assist in identifying and performing any needed performance benchmarks or
volume stress tests. When performed, evaluate and report on results.
• Coordinating with QA leads to ensure all the QA efforts goes seamlessly.
• Ensure all the QA team have proper access to perform their work.
• Monitor ETL processes and work with the ETL Developers responsible for
updating the Teradata system to insure data consistency and availability.
• Serves as escalation point for application/database related issues.
• Contribute to other technology projects requiring programming/ DBA
expertise.
• Perform database tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and
optimizing performance of the databases in lower life cycles.
• Review and tune any SQL related to the project across lower life-cycles
• Skewed/PJ/Impact CPU Queries
• Frequently scanning huge table with no PPI
• Spool out issues.
• Identifying the Multivalue Compress(MVC) Tables.
• Collect stats recommendation/Stale Stats
• Evaluating the proper Index strategies wherever required
• Exploring new features in Teradata
• Identify the like queries with similar problems.
• Quantifying and translating the performance gains into Business value in
terms of CPU/IO and capacity saved.
• Provide input on workload definition to help OPS DBA team define TASM
policy for the project. Also discuss business expectation for both ETL and
reporting SLA.
• Collect and provide all information required by OPS DBA team to implement
CMR .
• Collect and provide all information needed by OPS DBA team for data
retention and purge ( If required ).
• Define statistics for all new tables and provide input to OPS DBA for
ongoing stats collection policy.
• Participate in production implementation walk through sessions.
• Once project is in production evaluate performance and report the same
and make changes to improve performance where required.
• Engage with OPS DBA on all major database upgrades and get up to speed /
training with all new features
