        ut <<

Hey CC Regional Folks!
We are pulling together a cool (and slightly last-minute!) event for
tomorrow! Thursday, 7pm, in Beirut. Details all below. If anybody has cool
science/tech/art music or videos, or CC mashups, etc, please let us know!
Michael John Gorman is a very interesting guy, working on a great project
... and the evening will continue after his discussion is over!

Some other fun things coming up, as well. We've been publishing Hibr.me
newspaper in Lebanon (25,000 copies per month) with the CC logo/info on the
front cover for over a year, and have run some articles on it... We've been
working on plans to build on that, and we have a several fun things in the
pipeline:
- Working on a Citizen Journalism guidebook, to be published in about a
month and a half... which will be licensed under CC, and will have some
very cool elements to make it a "living book" ... once the first bit is
published, we'll also open up elements to other publishers/creators, etc.
We'll send you more info on that soon.

- and more...! But most pressing... see below!

Cheers!

Munir Nabti

*WHAT? *
Join us for a fun-filled evening with the Founding Director of Science
Gallery in Ireland, Dr. Michael John Gorman. Dr. Gorman will give a
presentation, share videos, and host a discussion around “Where Art &
Science Collide: Hybrid Cultural Institutions for the 21st Century.” Plus
some surprises, fun science/tech music and videos, and more after Dr.
Gorman's talk!

The Science Gallery, at Trinity College Dublin (www.sciencegallery.com) is a
new space dedicated to igniting creativity and discovery where science and
art collide. Recent exhibitions include BIORHYTHM (exploring the
relationship between music and the body, from human beatbox to the
neuroscience of dance) and Technothreads (exploring the science of fashion).
Full bio/info is below, and you should definitely check out the Science
Gallery site and on YouTube.

This is a collaborative event! If you have art/science/tech music, videos,
mixes, or mashups to share, bring them along and we'll see what we can mix
in!

*Dr Michael John Gorman and Science Gallery*
Dr Michael John Gorman is the Founding Director of Science Gallery at
Trinity College Dublin (www.sciencegallery.com), a new space dedicated to
igniting creativity and discovery where science and art collide. Since
opening in February 2008 Science Gallery has been visited by over 700,000
people and held twelve exhibitions on topics ranging from music and the body
to contagion and the science of fashion. Science Gallery was recently
honoured with Special Commendation for innovation in the museum sector at
the European Museum of the Year Awards. It also recently won the European
Commission's first ever call for projects linking art and science, leading a
consortium including Ars Electronica (Linz), Le Laboratoire (Paris),
MediaLab Prado (Madrid) and RCA (London) in the StudioLab project which will
involve artists, scientists and experimental designers in collaborations
around the future of water. Recent exhibitions include BIORHYTHM exploring
the relationship between music and the body, from human beatbox to the
neuroscience of dance and Technothreads, exploring the science of fashion.
Michael John is also an Adjunct Professor of Engineering at Trinity College
Dublin. Prior to leading the development of the Science Gallery Michael John
worked at Stanford University where he lectured in Science, Technology and
Society, and has held fellowships at Harvard University and MIT. Michael
John is the author of several books and numerous articles on the
intersections between science, technology and the arts including Buckminster
Fuller: Designing for Mobility (Skira/Rizzoli, 2005). Michael John has a BA
in Physics and Philosophy from Oxford University and a PhD in History of
Science from the European University Institute in Florence.
