Dear all
hope this email finds you well
I have some updates concerning the 3rd “Arab world Creative Commons
regional meeting” that, as I announced to this list on 9th March,
should have been held in Erbil, Iraq. For a number of reasons, we had
to cancel that meeting, and that`s why you have not been hearing from
us on agenda and program. But, since lots of people from our Arab
community had, at that time, submitted workshop proposals to join the
meeting, I thought it would have been a pity to waste all this work.
Now I can finally announce that we are re-scheduling the meeting in
Tunis from 30rd of June till 2nd of July. This has been possible
thanks to Nawaat, who kindly agreed to take care of all the logistics
and the organization in Tunis, and to Al Jazeera, who is sponsoring
the event.
The event formula is exactly the same that was discussed in the 9th
March email: participation to the meeting is open, upon presentation
of a workshop proposal, to all the Arab world members. The idea is to
participate not in a passive way, but by giving back to the others in
the community and particularly to the Tunisian community who has been
less hooked up to the regional one. The only participants who wont be
giving workshops are those whose countries dont have a huge CC
community yet and where have been difficult to travel for visa or
political issues (i.e. Palestine, Iraq) and the official affiliates
who are already doing legal and outreach work. Yet, I have to say that
the majority of countries where CC communities are well established
have, since the very first call on 9th March, responded
enthusiastically to the meeting idea and have sent really cool
workshop proposals.
So far, just to recap, we have workshop proposals coming from mixed
teams in the following countries and disciplines:
Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, UAE, Qatar
open education, law, visual arts, entrepreneurship, music, citizen
journalism, social media.
For those who are interested, I can send the agenda and also I hope we
will be soon able to post on CC Arabic website (any volunteer to help
with the regional site?unfortunately, due to the contingency in the
Region the website is not updated but if anybody would like to help
that would be great).
We have budget for a total of 30 participants, and still some free
places to give up since some people, who originally proposed workshops
for Erbil, cant make it to Tunis.
I strongly invite people who are interested to lead a workshop in an
area that is not covered yet to contact me asap. Also, people coming
from countries where CC communities are not rooted yet, pls do contact
me if you are interested in joining. Since the meeting is very soon I
invite you to express your interest immediately and to propose
workshops not after next Friday 11 June (please follow the model that
everybody else followed as per my email of 22nd March to this list).
Also, since we are going to host a final concert the last day,
inshallah, we are particularly interested in reaching out to musicians
from different genres and countries who are interested in open music
and remixing (either that have already released their music under CC
or willing to). We hope to make soon something out of this
performance, inshallah
Sorry for the late notice but pls note that participants who have
already submitted proposals for Erbil had to be counted and confirmed
before re-opening the call.
Hope now more people can join inshallah
Please let me know asap and do send proposals before 11 June
salamaat
dona
