Thanks Brian for this update and thanks to your great team for pulling
this together.
As many of you know, during the POland Summit we reached the decision
that the only way to make the community writing and uploading by
themselves was to transfer the content to a more easy-to-use platform
The current one was designed and run by Fabricatorz and was a bit
difficult for a normal user to keep updated, and needed an admin..so
we thought that would be better if everybody in the community takes
the responsibility to write, post and upload by him/herself instead of
having layers of mediation
I `d like to thank Bassel, Jon and the Fabricatorz team for the great
work they did, they built the website from scratch and make it alive
with cool stuff. They have also done the CC Asia site, which is
incredibly cool..and the team is still working in doing workshops
about open source in the region, the last one being in Qatar..
but at this point, as discussed in Warsaw, we need an easier to use
platform, accessible to every single user, which is something that
this platform designed by CC Qatar on wordpress provides.
The goal is that each one among you could write a post, a news, etc
and update the site by him/herself without passing by any mediation.
Everybody in the Arab community should contribute with news, updates,
events. Eman from CC Jordan has volunteered to curate more "advanced"
content, i.e. features and articles that we might want to have in the
site (and translate into arabic the stuff that needs to be
ttranslated). But for the more day-to-day stuff (news, updates, etc)
should be handled by each of you, and I`d love if all the countries
were we have active communities in the region could post news about
events, meetings, projects , just to keep the others updated
I think also that this website has a very important feature, i.e. the
forum feature, that will contribute to move many of the discussions we
had here on the mailing list to a more public and open place. This
will help transparency a lot. Everybody could launch a topic for the
forum which will just need an initial registration, but then the flow
of messages will be free
I also think that many of the news we are exchanging here should be in
a public place and open, and we do need a sort of "repository" where
we can keep track of what we are doing in the region in terms of
projects, events etc..
I hope you can have a look at the website template sent by Brian and
send your feedback asap. The reason why we need to launch soon is
because there are activities planned in countries new to the CC
community (like Algeria for example) and we need to have a public
place where to address people for information, outreach etc
We could eventually change the website features in the future, of
course. But if you could have a look in these days and send comments
to Brian by next week, this would be very much appreciated to have a
better start
sorry for the long email and, again, a big thank to Fabricatorz for
launching and running the website for years, and to CC Qatar for
taking the lead now and designing the new version
waiting for your feedback
salam
dona
