Salam everybody just some new year wishes to the CC Arab list This 2011 has been an incredible year for everybody in the region, a year of pain and violence which is still ongoing in many of our countries, but also a year of great change and hope for others..more change is definetively gonna come in 2012 and inshallah is gonna be good change for everybody For me, still the best visualization of the passed 2011 is this one made by Khalid Albaih, a Sudanese member of our community based in Qatar http://www.flickr.com/photos/khalidalbaih/6605298887/in/photostream/ I want to send you all my best wishes for 2011 and this picture, which is worthy 1000 words Few thoughts about 2012 and our CC communities: there is still ongoing unrest and revolutions in the region, so it`s very difficult to plan anything and to focus on anything which is not political change but, since our communities work for social change through the web and its openness, we`ll still be willing to do stuff in the region where we can.. something in the pipeline: - 15-16-17 Jan we plan to gather some artists who took part in the "Sharing the spring" concert in Tunis last July and have them record the two peer-produced and CC licensed songs we did in Tunis. Once these tracks are ready we`ll be sharing over the internet and invite other people to remix them. Inshallah we`ll do a compilation with all the remixes a "Remix the spring" thing..there is a plan to make a short book and edit a dvd,too, to go with the music..the discussion is now happening in the Tunis list, but we`ll update the regional list - 21 Jan we`ll have the first CC Tunis Salon to celebrate the first anniversary of Tunisian revolution and the creativity that has sparkled from there all across the arab world - there is a plan to do a film makers` residency (workshops, etc) and a collective film, on the same model we used for the "Sharing the spring" concert..this will possibly happen in the spring, and we`ll keep you posted on the selection process of the participants, there will be an open call for the filmmakers to join the meeting..location should be Doha, inshallah - there is another plan to do a comics makers and illustrators gathering in Beirut to do a Pan Arab CC comic novel..again, same model as "Sharing the Spring"..put the people together and ask them to create stuff together not just to meet up..then the result will be shared with the broader community and remixed..I think this peer- production and open-distribution model is the future of CC in the Arab world but pls if you would like to see other aspects of CC developed and taken care of in the region pls write proposals! I`m also looking for a better way to communicate with the regional community rather than the mailing list , any proposal is more than welcome we should also think about hosting an online community meeting each month or two months, if you like, this would help to stay in touch and gather proposals last but not least, the regional website which is coming up in the new version kindly curated by CC Qatar: the website is yours! pls email articles, pics, blogposts, remember that this is a collective space that should be curated by the community so pls do contribute actively
