To the best of my knowledge SMS data is sent on a regular basis to the ISF
(monthly) and are filtered by keywords. I havent followed the developments
lately though, but from the debate on the ICT security law and the
amendments of the publications laws in lebanon over the past 2 years, it's
easy for the government to request login information... not completely in a
legal way, but mostly by creating loopholes in the law and such.
Informally or illegally they never stopped tapping into people's private
lives, before or after web 2.0
If you want more info from ppl following the news, try to contact maybe
SMEX people (there were other initiatives involved in these things but I
don't remember the names unfortunately) or just contact the legal agenda
directly, I don't know if they investigated this from a legal angle but
they probably could point you out to ppl.
