Hi All,

I am working on a 2 switch topology.

Switch1(3550) has MSTP running and Switch 2(3560) has PVST+ running. Switch
2 is the VTP server with vlans 1,10,20,30,40.
I have two ports connected between the switches with dot1q trunking.

Initially I mapped instance 0 to vlans 1,10,30 and Instance 1 to 20,40. The
MSTP was the root, both ports on Switch1 was designated and one of the ports
in switch2 was BLK.

I tried to make the switch2 which is running PVST as the root for all VLANs
using the command spanning-tree vlan x root primary. The MSTP switch now has
a PVST inconsistency state in one of the root ports and went blocking.

I also tried mapping all VLANS to instance 0. But still there was an error
"Inconsistent inferior PVST BPDU received on VLAN 10, claiming root" on the
MSTP switch,

According to this documentation, if the PVST+ switch is a root for all
VLANs, then things should be fine.

When i remove the VLANs 10-40 from the spanning tree process on Switch2 with
VLAN1 as a root, then things work. How can I get additional VLANs in switch2
as root?
Please help.

TIA
Sharath
