You need that. A big difference.

 

here is my 2 cents.

 

Vlan allowed is  like do not prune any traffic of the allowed vlans. Block all 
other VLANs traffic.

 

While PRUNING prevents the " unnecessay" traffic from the ALLOWED VLANs if the 
fowarding switch does not have connected ports of the downstream switch in 
"FOWARDING state" .

So If I enable VTP prune it will prune back unused vlans correct.  So why do I 
need to use commands like switchport trunk allowed vlan 97. If I have pruning 
enabled I would not need this correct ?
