I run GNS with ubuntu 32 bits, on a thinkpad T60,
  model name    : Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo CPU      T2500  @ 2.00GHz

The system has 3gb of ram.
I can run up to 14 routers in my setup.

A 64 bits system will not give you some better performance, just will let
you address more memory.
