Wow, you do realize that if the r2 interface is shutdown it shows as
notconnected on the switch

Because if the cable is not physically connected on that port, then
it will never come up.
Anyway taka a look on where that port goes to:

Of course I can't log in and look...
but what is that interface connected to? Is there any reason why it
would appear down at the other end? ie speed wrong (this would give
you cdp errors normally), shutdown, etc
