You only need to recert during the two year period before your next date.

Ie I recertified recently, and my due date falls in October. Therefore if I
recert again in November, I'm good until October 2016. Also, if I recert in
2015 at some stage, I'm still good until October 2016. If I recert in
September 2016, I'm good until October 2016.
