Hi all

The following are some important parameters for configuring sla monitoring:

   - timeout
   - num-packets
   - frequency

asa1(config-sla-monitor-echo)# ?

IP SLA Monitor Echo Configuration Commands:
  default Set a command to its defaults
  exit               Exit probe configuration
 * frequency Frequency of an operation*
  no Negate a command or set its defaults
 * num-packets        Number of Packets*
  request-data-size  Request data size
  threshold          Operation threshold in milliseconds
  *timeout            Timeout of an operation*
  tos                Type Of Service
  <cr>

Frequency should be always greater than timeout.

With the following configuration, please let me know if my understanding is
correct:

timeout          - 5000 ms
num-packets - 4 packet
frequency      -  60 s

1st packet is sent and response is expected within 5000 ms
2nd packet is sent after 60 s and response is expected within 5000 ms
3rd packet is sent after 60 s and response is expected within 5000 ms
4th packet is sent after 60 s and response is expected within 5000 ms

Please answer the following queries:

   - If the response comes after 5000 ms, will the sla consider it or not?
   - What is the criteria for the sla to fail? If it gets response for 1 out
   of 4 packets, then will it be considered as a pass?
   - What does the frequency parameter actually do? Each packet can be sent
   after the timeout right?

With regards
Kings
