Suppose this scenario: R1, R2 and R3 connected to the same switch R1 and R2 are in the same subnet and connected to the switch where the ports are configured as switchport protected R3 is in the same subnet and the interface is configured with local-proxy-arp R1 and R2 are able to communicate with each other.
