Don't forget the IPS documentation. I actually use the ACS documentation a
lot and find it very helpful. The more your familiar with the more helpful
it will be with the lab.

hey jerome et al -

my first post here :) ... when i FIRST took the lab back in v2.0, i was
very careful about what documentation to practice using. i had practiced
and practiced with ASA and IOS docs but had forgotten switching really (had
always referred back to books). i knew not to use "search" too so avoided
it (i equate searching with a search engine - not that POS...)?

then there was some kind of request that i didn't know and had trouble
finding it (specifically switch security-related). i found what i needed
through the product navigator, but the IOS-based stuff is laid out like
garbage (to this day i struggled to find it... :) ). i think i got taken to
a deployment guide / white paper disguised as a config example and that was
certainly off limits.

i actually got really flustered and ended up asking the proctor what sites
were allowed since it seemed contrary from what my study-mates and CCIEs AND
the lab blueprint had said. i'll bet they were using IOS URL-filtering with
regexs :p . needless to say i missed that one and spent way too much time
on it and it probably affected me mentally more than it should've.

long story short, now that i'm starting up again, a few days ago i started
trying to memorize the clicks i needed. since you asked, i will propose the
following click sequences... feel free to fill in any missing blanks or call
me crazy!

starting here:

http://www.cisco.com/cisco/web/psa/configure.html

ASA

*       > Products > Security > Firewall > Firewall Appliances > Cisco ASA
5500 Series Adaptive Security Appliances

*       Configuration Guides

* Cisco Security Appliance Command Line Configuration Guide, Version
8.0

IOS

* > Products > Cisco IOS and NX-OS Software > Cisco IOS > Cisco IOS
Software Release 12.4 Family > Cisco IOS Software Releases 12.4 T

*       Configuration Guides

* Cisco IOS Network Management Configuration Guide (SNMP and NTP)
* Cisco IOS Security Configuration Guide: Secure Connectivity (VPN)
* Cisco IOS Security Configuration Guide: Securing User Services (AAA)
* Cisco IOS Security Configuration Guide: Securing the Data Plane (FW
and IDS)
* Cisco IOS IP Routing: <ROUTING_PROTOCOL> (routing protocols)

SWITCH

*       > Products> Switches > LAN Switches - Access > Cisco Catalyst 3750
Series Switches

*       Configure > Configuration Guides

* Catalyst 3750 Switch Software Configuration Guide, 12.2(44)SE

i intentionally left out ACS and VPNC because those docs will not be very
helpful IMHO. hope this all helps!!!

take care!

andrew

I had my first Lab experinece a week ago and I was able to use the most of

normal support stuff was available.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Security] Documentation access in the lab

Hi Folks,

I know this has been done to death, and I know Tyson posted a question to
Yusuf ( https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/136214?tstart=0
<https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/136214?tstart=0&viewcondensed>
&viewcondensed ) and Yusuf responded stating that tech notes, config gudies
and command references are available in the lab. But, a colleague recently
say the CCIE Security lab and said that the documentation access is heavily
filtered and much of the useful content is not available. I think Tacack
reported a similar experience some time ago.Does anyone else have any recent
experience with this?

Cheers, Jerome
