No it won't work with VMware because the e1000 emulation in VMware could not
deal with the special NIC drivers Cisco ships since IPS release 6, so that's
why QEMU is needed to run it.

Ok. But QEMU is needed? I was hoping for a way to boot an .iso in my Vmware
ESXi and install it directly as a virtual machine. As far as I have seen it´s
possible with v5.x, but I havent found a solution for 6.x.

Jimmy,

I have checked into this extensively. This link is showing promise. I was
actually going to do this sometime this week and see how it works.

http://inetpro.org/wiki/Using_qemu_to_run_Cisco_IPS

this will run up to 6.0.5(e3) .

Good luck

Hello all fellow CCIE-students!

I am working on my home-lab which is growing and soon I only miss an IPS. Have
anyone here had any success in running IPS-code 6.x in Vmware for lab-purposes?
Please send me an reply either here or in unicast.

Thanks in advance!

/Jimmy
