I never got that impression. Like I said, I have multiple clients setup on a Cisco DHCP server that use DHCP client and are configured using hardware address on the server side. One example is my HP 4050N network printer. The printer setup specifically has it configured for DHCP on and BOOTP off. It is using hardware address in the configuration and works fine
