Gday Kings, Just stay in the Urban in St Leonards. It is very close to the lab - I was able to walk there with my luggage on lab day. The address is 194 Pacific Highway. If the name/owner has changed since then, you will need to google for something else :)
I dont remember how much it cost, however most places in Sydney are $lots in a taxi from anywhere, and although the trains are generally good, and there is even a station practically underneath the lab building, but for the sake of $50 or so saving money do you really want to risk it? By all means, train from airport to/from the lab (better option than taxi) but my advice is to stay in the Urban. Even if I lived in Sydney and I wanted to do the lab I would still stay there, just for the convenience and reduction of risk/stress.
