Hello, I believe the issue you are seeing is based on two issues. One is that 10.x.x.x is a class A network. The normal netmask for this is 255.0.0.0 and that means anything in the 10.x.x.x network is active except 10.0.0.0 and 10.255.255.255. So in that or any situation where the netmask is not 255.255.255.0 you have to be sure that 255 is not assigned.
