We discussed a similar situation with another instructor and some students. In general, the requirements listed in the workbooks tend to be a bit more vague than the exam. This isn't to say that the lab is always clear. :). But, the proctors would prefer not to have to answer questions on more things than necessary. And, if something is more open-ended, it becomes more difficult to grade. If you have a question, though, ask away.
